Community Events

The Meeker Police Department celebrates Red Ribbon Week with all school grades, discussing drug awareness and prevention.

Meeker Police Officers go to the schools and do a safety program associated with each grade. We have budget funds for this specific event and provide decorations, balloons, banners and handouts for the schools.

Elk Bugling Contest

Since 1985 the Meeker Police Department has held this annual event in October. Grades 1st thru 5th grade participate in both the bugling and camouflage contest.

Bicycle Rodeo

This event is annually held at the Meeker Elementary school parking lot. Grades 1st thru 5th grade participate in learning hand signals, safety tips and practice bike riding thru an obstacle course. We have given out helmets and bike locks and some years we are able to give away new bicycles.

Eddie Eagle

Kindergarten thru 3rd grade participate in this gun safety program. This program teaches children to follow this safety program if they see a gun:

  • Stop!
  • Don’t touch
  • Leave the area
  • Tell an adult

“Stop” and “Don’t Touch” are the most important messages for children to learn.

National Night Out

This annual event, held the first Tuesday evening in August across the Nation, is a community building campaign that promotes positive relationships betwee law enforcement and neighbors.
